A historical message poem written by Venerable Thotagamuwe Sri Rahula Thero during the Kingdom of Kotte Sri Lanka in 15th Century. The messenger of Selalihini Sandeshaya was a Hill Myna (Selalihiniya). The receiver was the God Vibheeshana. The messenger is entrusted the task of making a vow to God Vibheeshana to give a pregnancy of a son to the Queen Ulakudaya of the King Parakramabahu VI of Kotte. The messenger’s tour was from Sri Jayawardhanapura to Kelaniya. The poet has excelled in poetic intuition in describing spectacular signs while giving route directions to messenger. Poised in Samudraghosha rhythm this is a climax of message poems in the literature of Sri Lanka. The art of making visual images - while eulogizing female beauty and natural phenomena and the use of similes and metaphors is extraordinary. This edition contains eloquent commentaries clarifying lyrical qualities embedded in each poem. This is highly useful for related academics for deeper insights on Selalihini Sandeshaya and for all those who wish to enrich their poetic acuteness.
