Sigiripadya

Anyone walking up to the Sigiriya rock fortress in Sri Lanka will be greeted by a large number of verses inscribed on the rock. Known as Sigiri Graffiti the verses have been a subject of interest for many leading archeologists such as Senarat Paranavitana of Sri Lanka. The graffiti penned by the visitors of yore indicate the power of rich expression that existed in Sri Lanka many centuries ago. The present edition contains connotations and annotations to 200 (two - hundred) verses on the Sigiri rock. It also contains a glossary of obscure words found in the Sigiri verses. The edition provides interesting insights into the literary prowess of the Sri Lankans many centuries ago. The language style as well as their imagination play a vital role in the poetry found inscribed on the rock.
