The text Mahavagga Pali is an annotated edition of a canonical text designed for students. The text is limited to the first chapter of Mahavagga sub - titled Maha Khandhaka - a Pail text prescribed for the preliminary Examination of Oriental Studies Society. Mahavagga is one the five texts comprising the Vinaya Pitaka other four being Bhikkhu Vibhanga Bikkhuni Vibhanga Callavagga and Parivara. Maha khandhaka is the first out of ten chapters of Mahavagga. The prescribed text is followed by a word - for - word paraphrase and a faithful translation in Sinhala. Supplementary notes are provided for further elucidation of abstruse concepts.
